Hannah is Outnumbered by Dogs

Riley is out of town, so Hannah is outnumbered by dogs 2 to 1. How is that going? Let's find out!

Hey everyone! Hannah here, with a few updates to share with you all this week.

First off, let’s talk about the poll results. Last week, we ran a quick poll to see which season you prefer: spring, summer, fall, or winter. Here were the results:

  • Spring: 4%

  • Summer: 21%

  • Fall: 67%

  • Winter: 8%

I tend to agree with these results! Fall is great. I love the colorful trees. We can run the dogs again. I am a winter lover too, though. Well, I guess a snow lover…not a cold lover. This year, we only had 11 inches of snow ugh. Hoping for more this coming winter with the forecasted La Nina pattern.

Spring is not my forte. Although I do like the warming temperatures, my allergies do not like all the blooms. I also don’t like the resurgence of stinging insects. I do like summer, although when it gets much over 80 or 85 degrees, I can tend to overheat.

Now for today’s story. Riley is out of town for a few days, and so are Beth and JT. That leaves me alone with both dogs. 2 vs 1…no big deal…right?

Of course, some storms had to roll through to make things more interesting. Boo took shelter in my closet of course. Pence was shaking, and laying on our bed. I think Boo’s storm anxiety is rubbing off on her unfortunately.

When we have both dogs at our house, we typically take them on a walk at the same time. Riley walks Pence while I walk Boo. But with Riley gone, I had to walk them both by myself.

If you remember from a previous newsletter, sled dogs don’t typically walk well on a leash. Boo really doesn’t do too bad on a leash. But Pence is a puller for sure.

Of course, I could have opted to take them on walks separately, but what’s the fun in that? I had only tried this once previously and it did not go well at all lol. They were super excited to go on a walk as usual.

I was pleasantly surprised that most of our walk was enjoyable last night! At one point, the little yapper dog that always barks at us walking by spooked Pence again. After that, she was on a mission to get back to the house as quickly as possible.

However, Boo was still walking at his leisurely pace. He was watching her zig-zag back and forth frantically, looking at her like “what is wrong with you?”.

The last leg of our walk was more or less me being drug by the dogs at an almost jogging pace back to the house.

For our Urban Mushers+ subscribers, I captured video of Boo flying through the air numerous times in excitement about going on a walk. I also included some video throughout our walk. Check it out at the bottom of this newsletter!

One quick newsletter update for everyone!

We’ve received a lot of great feedback that people are enjoying hearing about the dog’s lives and fun stories! That’s what we hoped for!!

You probably have realized that the warmer months aren’t quite as exciting as we can’t do as much with the dogs, related to mushing anyways.

While the weather is warmer, we are going to move to one newsletter per week. Don’t worry, there will not be a lack of cute dog content! We just don’t want to flood your inboxes when there may not be as much to talk about right now.

So, my next question is, what day of the week would you prefer to receive the newsletter?
