Boo and Pence Did a Virtual Talk about Sled Dogs

Boo and Pence enjoyed a week at Beth's house and gave a presentation to a second grade classroom!

Hi friends! A couple updates for you today.

Riley and I were recently out of town, so the dogs hung out at Beth’s house for a few days.

As usual, Pence was a nervous nelly in the car. When we arrived at Beth’s, we got Pence’s crate set up how she likes it and said our goodbyes. Pence was shaking and anxious, and kept trying to get out the door to leave with me.

When I finally snuck out of the house while she was getting a drink, I saw her run over to the glass door to see what I was doing. Before I even sat down in my car to get a photo, she had already disappeared.

I received a text maybe 30 seconds later with this photo and the caption “She has decided she’s fine now”

Clearly, it didn’t take long for her to get settled in this time. This was her third stay with them, I think, but was also the longest.

A few days into their stay, Beth and JT had to go out of town for a night for work. JT’s mom came over to stay with them. When JT’s mom let the dogs out of their crates, they both went right outside to do their business and then came right back in.

The next thing really shocked me…

Pence jumped up and sat on JT’s mom’s lap soon after! They had a brief meet and great the night before to make sure Pence would be ok, and clearly she was. Boo had already met her plenty of times and loves her.

The next morning, JT’s mom was awaken by Pence coming down the stairs, sitting on top of her, and licking her face! I was like WTF?! That can’t be our dog lol

Also while we were out of town, Beth, Boo, and Pence gave a virtual talk to my aunt’s second grade classroom! Each year, my aunt tries to incorporate school lessons somehow related to the Iditarod!

I think this year was even more fun for her and her class because there is more of a personal connection with our friend Q running the race!

During the virtual talk, Beth bribed the dogs with sliced cheese and they were happy to oblige. They talked about sled dogs, Boo and Pence’s backgrounds, sled and dryland races, booties and harnesses, etc.

Of course the kids LOVED the presentation and had so many great questions during the Q and A portion!

Beth’s favorite quote from the talk was “oh my gosh, he’s only 3 days older than me and he’s already completed the Iditarod?!”

He probably went home that night and started training for a marathon haha.

That’s all we have for you today! We hope everyone has a great weekend!

We often get asked about the gear we use for both us and our dogs. We talk about everything we use from helmets and harnesses to lights and antennas for our bike.
