Now let’s get into this week’s updates!

First of all, I know we kept talking about the dogs being in a magazine and that it was published late last month. We were able to obtain several hard copies of the magazine and sent them out to our Urban Mushers+ subscribers and wanted to give them a little time to get to their destinations before sharing the link publicly. But without further ado…

Secondly, as we creep closer to racing season, we’re looking to buy a new bike for the team (picture below)! We have slowly been gathering/purchasing all of our own gear over the years, but we're missing one final piece of equipment, which happens to be the most expensive one, a bike for the bikejoring events.

In past years, we've always had to borrow bikes on race day (thanks Q and others!), but we don't want to always rely on others, especially if they can't make some of the events we go to. Plus, without a reliable mountain bike, we're not able to train bikejoring at home on trails. We have an older street bike, but that doesn't hold up on anything but pavement.

So now we're looking to add that final piece of equipment to our team.

We've found a bike from a local dealer that is a great "entry level" mountain bike that will meet all of our needs. "Entry level" in the mountain bike world is still pretty costly, so we started a GoFundMe to raise some funds to offset some of that cost.

To those who do throw us some spare change, you are amazing and we can't thank you enough!

Next up, let’s have a little fun. Some of you may have noticed similarities between Pence and Flame. In some pictures, they could be twins! Although it was pretty hard to find photos of them in the exact same pose, I found one that is pretty close. Can you guess which one is Pence?

Fourth - our scooter is fixed!! The bike shop we took it to on Wednesday had it fixed and ready for us to pick up on Friday afternoon! They replaced the broken suspension cable, tightened the brakes, cleaned the brake pads, and fixed the wobble in the wheels.

The back tire still rubs on the dented back fender occasionally, but the fender can easily be taken off. It just comes in handy when it’s muddy lol. We also haven’t tried to beat out the dent yet, so that could help.

When we picked up the scooter, the shop pointed out that the handlebars were on backwards! OOPS. Had no idea.

When we first got the scooter, the handlebars and the handlebar stem (idk if that is the appropriate name or not?) were flipped around 180 degrees for a shorter person. For my comfort, I had to flip them back around, which included taking off all the grips, reflectors, bells, brakes, etc.

I had never worked on bikes or the like before, but I thought I did a pretty good job. Apparently not lol. Basically, the handlebars are now in a slight U shape, where my hands slightly curve up and out. However, the handlebars should slightly curve in like an upside down U, where my hands slightly go downward.

Now that I know that, it kind of bugs me lol. I may flip them around correctly, or may take it back to the shop and have them do it because it was a hassle before. Oh well! It’s at least rideable and in better condition than after I wrecked it last fall!

The weather has been in the 90s again this week, so we were not able to try it out since we got it back. It looks like some cooler mornings are in the forecast, so maybe we’ll get a chance soon.

ALSO - we did get a name of the alleged corgi musher in town, but I haven’t been able to track them down yet. I’ll keep trying!

Lastly, we’ve compiled a list of upcoming dryland races if anyone is interested in attending any! It’s probably not an all-inclusive list, but just what we’ve seen so far. We are still trying to figure out which races we may attend. These are the start dates, although most are 2 day events.
